How to wear your Summer Wardrobe in Autumn

It seems like the weather can’t make its mind up recently, I get up in the morning and wrap up warm for the gym, I come out an hour later and my jumper goes firmly in my bag as I get even more hot and bothered than I did on the treadmill. I don’t know about you, but because of this I’m finding myself stood in front of the mirror contemplating whether a summer dress or jeans and a jumper is more appropriate for the day ahead. This daily conundrum has inspired me to write this post on how to wear your Summer wardrobe this Autumn so we can try keep that autumnal vibe be it hot or cold.

1. When in doubt, add a biker jacket

A leather jacket instantly gives any outfit that extra edge making it the perfect addition if you’re thinking you might look a little too summery. Even a white lacey mini dress looks amazing with a leather jacket thrown over the top, the mix of textures looks effortlessly cool whether you’re going shopping, grabbing some lunch or even a quick trip to the pub.

2. Layers, layers and more layers

Sweatshirts are my best friend in autumn, I love how they look over a casual bodycon dress or even a shorts and t shirt combo. These kinds of outfits are perfect to wear in the morning when the air is still nice and fresh but bare legs keeps you from overheating later in the day. If you’re not a sweatshirt person you can easily switch it out for a little check shirt that matches the base of your outfit that day. I’m also a fan of these tied round your waist later in the day for a really relaxed feel.

3. “You can never take too much care over the choice of your shoes” Christian Dior

Shoes can completely transform your outfit, just think of how different a pair of jeans looks with trainers compared to some skyscraper heels! Swapping your open toe sandles for some chunky white trainers, boots or some cute loafers takes you from summer to autumn in an instant.

4. Pretty tops aren’t just for summer

PSA: stop putting away your little summery tops, their time is not over yet! This might seem kind of obvious but I always forget that a lacey top and jeans (maybe with a leather jacket to top it off!) is a perfect Autumnal outfit. Switching shorts or a skirt for jeans is a great way to get maximum versatility from your wardrobe.

I hope that’s given you a few new ideas for what to wear this Autumn and maybe let you look at your summer wardrobe in a new light. I’ve never been one to put away summer clothes when the months grow colder because there’s just so much you can mix and match across the seasons. It also stops me buying things I basically already own because they’re not tucked away in a box, better for my bank balance and the environment!

Trends for Autumn 2019

Autumn is definitely on the horizon and as much as I love the sun I’m starting to get excited now I’ve seen the Autumn collections creeping their way onto the high street. Although the big designer brands often control the trends on the catwalk the high street can offer some really lovely alternatives and make what can be some pretty wacky trends a lot more wearable. There are a few common themes among the Autumn collections I’ve seen so I thought I’d put together a little list of the trends that seem to come up again and again and show you some really nice ways to wear them that won’t break the bank.

1. Florals aren’t just for spring1. Florals aren’t just for spring

Dark florals look to be one of the biggest trends this season and I’m loving it! This is such a perfect trend as it lets you stay comfortable in black if you’re not overly comfortable in colour but still adds an interesting pop to your outfit. I picked this dress up from Stradivarius recently and I can see it staying in my wardrobe for a long time because of the neutral base colour and the classic siluette. It’s also incredibly versatile, I can see myself wearing it with ankle boots, black trainers or even a little pair of heels.

2. Victorian Elegance

Victorian detailing is back in a big way this season with the catwalks displaying enormous ruffs and ankle-brushing hem lines. Not necessarily what I’ll be wearing to the supermarket but the more minimal details, seen on this peter pan collar shirt from Topshop, are a really nice nod to the trend.

3. Power Puff Sleeves

I’m sure many people will be happy to hear that puffy sleeves are not going anywhere this Autumn. A more subtle way to wear the trend is with this t-shirt from topshop, the puffy sleeves are still there but it could be worn with a nice pair of jeans to tone down the sleeves if you’re not wanting to be too out there!

4. Double Triple Leather

The catwalks were head to toe in leather for Autumn: trousers, jackets, shoes, shirts, you name it! Although I won’t be going that far I think it’s definitely time for a new leather jacket in my wardrobe and this leather-look biker jacket from New Look is a great option.

5. Western’s back

The western theme from last year is back again, this time with a focus on boots. Cowboy boots were definitely around a lot last year so better dig them out again! If you didn’t indulge last year Topshop have got you covered with these western boots.

I hope you enjoyed my take on the incoming trends for Autumn, I’m surprisingly really excited for Autumn fashion this year which doesn’t bode well for my bank account! If you did like this post I’d really appreciated it if you could like, share and subscribe to my blog.

ASOS New In: Responsible Edit

It seems like summer is drawing to a close, and as sad as that makes me it can only mean one thing: not long until Christmas! Don’t worry, this is not a Christmas post in August but we do need to start thinking about Autumn so where is the first place I looked? Had to be ASOS! ASOS also have a relatively new feature on their site that lets you filter results so you only see ‘Responsible’ items, letting you see either items made from recycled materials or sustainable materials. I love this feature and will definitely be using it to try and be more environmentally friendly with my shopping. Keep on reading to see my picks from the ASOS new in section for the end of Summer/Autumn.

The first thing that caught my eye were these khaki peg cargo trousers from Monki. These look like such a great Summer-Autumn transitional piece, I’d wear these virtually all year round! The whole cargo vibe has been such a huge trend all year and I can’t see it going anywhere is Autumn!

Another Autumn/Winter staple (did I just say winter?! Hang on I need to lie down) is a cute high neck top and as always, ASOS have got us covered. This Vero Moda high neck jersey top is the perfect staple for when the weather turns cooler so you’ll be prepared when the sun surrenders. Both the burgundy and the mustard yellow are super Autumnal and are helping me cope with the end of summer.

You know when you see something and you gasp out loud? That’s what happened when I saw this white denim fitted western shirt dress. The western trend was huge last year and the cowboy boots and fringe look set to make a return this season! This is a much more subtle way to wear the trend but still a nice nod to the western theme.

ASOS DESIGN t-shirt with planet love motif in organic cotton

Finally I wanted to shout out a couple of cute t-shirts I found, both of which are made from organic cotton! The first is this white t-shirt with planet love motif, I love the little motif and I think its such a nice way to wear a basic white t-shirt with a little extra something. The next one is a super simple dusty pink crew neck t-shirt which looks so perfect to wear with literally anything! Anything dusty pink draws my eye and believe me when I saw this is going straight in my bag!

I hope you enjoyed this ASOS responsible edit, we all need to be more environmentally friendly particularly in the way we shop and this filter will be a great help with that. I’ve been a little AWOL this summer and posts have been sporadic at best but I’m hoping to get out of my rut once I’m back at uni in a month, I really enjoyed writing this post and will get back to posting more frequently soon! If you liked this post please don’t forget to like, share and subscribe, thank you for reading!
