Fashion Influx x In The Style

I’ve followed Lydia Rose, better known as Fashion Influx for a while now and I love scrolling through her Instagram, she’s super relaxed but versatile with everything she wears and it’s goals honestly. So when I saw she was dropping her own collection with online retailer In The Style I signed up for early access immediately. Her range also includes swimwear which I’m genuinely considering purchasing even though I’ll have absolutely no where to wear it since I’m currently on holiday… keep reading to see my top picks from her fab range.

First up is this beautiful cream satin crop top. I actually saw something very similar on Lydia’s Instagram from Zara a while ago and I loved how it looked, I’ve seen it a few times since then so I’m not surprised she included something similar in her own collection!

Next up are these incredible ecru denim tie waist paperbag shorts. They look so flattering and I can think of countless things I’d wear them with. I think they’re so versatile and could easily be dressed up with some little heels and a top or dressed down with some nice white trainers and a T-shirt or casual shirt.

It couldn’t be a Fashion Influx collection without some beautiful little dresses, this green floral wrap frill trim mini dress is probably my favourite. This sage green colour is everywhere right now and this dress is such a lovely way to wear it.

Moving onto swimwear, this print is EVERYTHING! This red floral plunge tie back swimsuit is so beautiful I’m so upset it didn’t drop a few weeks ago, I would have worn this everyday on holiday! I also love that she’s released some oversized shirts with the swimwear as little coverups. One also comes in this stunning print and I can see it thrown over a basic outfit, maybe some white shorts and trainers with a plain T-shirt? I need to stop convincing myself to buy it now…

Okay, so I know this is another swimsuit but look at it! I’ve always loved the colour yellow and this yellow floral scoop neck high leg swimsuit is no exception. This would even look lovely worn as a bodysuit with some shorts or even jeans as the weather cools off.

Finally (we got there eventually), I’m loving this black floral print bikini. A black bikini looks good on everyone and I think this is a really nice way of playing it safe but with a little pop of colour here and there to make things look a little more summery.

I hope you enjoyed reading my highlights from the Fashion Influx x In The Style collection, I think Lydia has done an amazing job in making this a versatile and beautiful collection. If you want to see the rest of the collection you can find it here, I’d definitely recommend checking it out for yourself! If you did like this post I’d really appreciate it if you could like, share and subscribe and follow me on Instagram to see when I post first.

What’s in my holiday makeup bag

I’m stilling basking in the Californian sun (let this never end) so my makeup routine has been a lot lighter, I did my makeup for the evening in less than 15 minutes the other day *pause for applause* which must be some kind of record for me! After this achievement I thought it only appropriate that I share with you some of those key products for passing off that summertime sweat for a summertime glow.

I fall in love with this product every time I use it and come September I’m definitely buying a lighter shade for when I’ve lost my tan. That product is the IT Cosmetics CC Cream and I can’t praise it enough! It’s super quick and easy to use but evens out my splotchy, slightly sunburned skin beautifully. It’s got just the right amount of coverage for me and none of the cake that comes with it, my perfect base come rain or shine.

Another perfect option for travelling is a multipurpose palette, my current fave is the Jordan x Beauty Bay Onyx palette because it contains 5 natural eyeshadows and a pop of yellow as well as two highlighters and a big mirror. Unfortunately I’m not sure this is still available but any palette that you can use for your eyes and your face is a winner for me.

A long-time favourite of mine is the Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer so I made sure to pick up another one before we jetted off to the states. This time however I decide to pick up one in a darker shade as well to use as a cream bronzer and I’m really happy I did! The product is nice and creamy and blendable and doesn’t move my foundation around underneath it so I don’t lose any coverage. It’s also nice and compact so I don’t have to worry about it taking up too much of my more limited space.

A true godsend this holiday has been getting my eyelashes lifted before I went away. I know this isn’t necessarily makeup but it’s definitely been helping me get ready far quicker this holiday! My LVL lashes have made all the difference and I would definitely think about having it done again. For anyone who doesn’t know, LVL stands for length, volume and lift and it’s basically like a perm for your eyelashes, your lashes are lifted at the root and set with a serum, the effect of which can last up to eight weeks. It’s been super helpful because if I’m not wearing makeup I my eyes look more open and awake and if I am wearing mascara it only takes a few swipes and it looks like I’ve got fake lashes on in an instant!

I hope that’s given you a better idea of the key products that make all the difference for getting ready in a flash on holiday, I’ve got more products than this with me (I didn’t pack that light!) but these are the ones I thought it worth directing particular attention to. If you did enjoy this post lease don’t forget to like, share and subscribe to see more and follow me on Instagram to see these products in action!

My favourite things about Southampton

I have been a student at the University of Southampton for two years now (where has the time gone!) and in that time I’ve come to love the city I live in for half the year. I wanted to write a post on my favourite things about Southampton from the perspective of a student not only for any prospective students but for anyone looking to visit the city. Keep on reading to see my favourite things about Southampton.

The university campus

I visited a few different universities in preparation for applying to uni and over the past couple of years with visiting friends and I’ve not seen a nicer campus than the Univeristy of Southampton. Highfield campus, the main campus, is modern and well equiped for lectures but it’s still beautiful and not overcrowded with towering buildings. Walking through campus is a joy, the areas of grass to sit on and the little stream make it difficult to be in a bad mood, even when I’m inundated with essays and exams!

The nightlife

One of the things that seems to set Southampton apart from other university cities is the variety of nightlife, from bars and pubs to clubs there’s something for everyone! One of my favourite places for drinks with friends is Wild Lime in Portswood, just down the road from Trago Lounge a cafe and bar that’s just as lovely for coffee and brunch as it is for evening drinks. One of the best student nights is Karaoke at Stags on campus, it gets super busy super fast so better head in straight after your 4pm lecture to get a seat! With cheap drinks and a buzy atmosphere Stags is a great place for a drink with friends anytime.

There are so so many clubs in Southampton so there’s definitely something for everyone. Everyone loves a night at Oceana, of course we head straight to the cheese room for some what I like to refer to as year six disco classics mixed in with some ABBA and not forgetting a Grease medley at the end of the night! I’ve also heard great things about Popworld and The Edge, they’re two of the places that nearly always come up when I’m asking where to go for the best night out. But the crown jewel in Southampton’s nightlife has to be Jesters, she might not look as swanky as Oceana but I’ve had some of my best nights at Jesters. There’s one mystery I just can’t solve about Jesters though, Southampton students help me out, what do they put in a Jesticle?! All of their signature cocktails are equally as confusing but we’ll keep ordering them!

Places to meet friends

If going out until 3am isn’t your thing, Southampton has some really lovely coffee houses and eateries to meet friends instead. I’ve already mentioned Trago Lounge is great for both daytime eating and evening drinking and another similar option is The Bridge. Located in the Union Building on campus, it’s another great place to chat, laugh and cry over essays (only sometimes!). Although we love a good Costa and Starbucks, Coffee#1 on Portswood high street is my favourite coffee house. I love the atmosphere in there whether I’m relaxing or furiously writing last minute essays (it happens more often than I care to admit..).

The layout of the city

I really like that the campus sits slightly outside of the city centre, it means I can keep my uni work and my social life separate where I can. It’s much nicer to walk home from lectures and put my work out of my mind when I need to. The house I rent sits bang in the middle of the city centre and the university so I’ve got good access to both my lectures and Westquay shopping centre, just how I like it!

Transport links

This might sound like a weird one, but with a spread out city a good bus service is vital! I got a free year long pass for the Unilink buses in my first year because I was living in halls and it was a lifesaver when I was running out the door for a lecture. Not only that but both Southampton Central and Southampton Airport train stations were really convenient whether I was going all the way to Plymouth or heading home for the weekend. Good transport links might seen strange to single out but you don’t know what you’ve got until its gone!

That rounds up my favourite things about Southampton as a student, I hope it was helpful to any prospective students or any visitors! If you liked this post please like, share and subscribe and follow me on instagram to see when I post first.

My current favourite makeup products

Those makeup products that make me actually want to get up in the morning and look presentable.

I’m definitely not one to get up and put on a full face of makeup every morning but I tend to try and put on a little something just to make myself feel more confident. Having said that, I do love makeup and I really enjoy playing around with it (which is why it takes me approx 2 hours to get ready for a night out) so I thought I’d tell you the makeup products that I’m loving right now.

current_favourite_makeup_SS19.jpg

Recently I have been tending to slap on a touch of foundation in the mornings, if just to even out my skintone slighty and my current favourite is the YSL All Hours foundation. It gives a good amount of coverage without looking cakey and gives a good base for the rest of my makeup to sit really well on top. It’s on the pricier side, but definitely worth the money!

From a designer brand foundation to a high street concealer, Revolution’s Conceal and Define concealer exploded into a crowded market last year and it really does live up to the hype. I love this concealer for under my eyes and dotting across my face if I’m having a no-foundation day. I can’t decide what I like more; the great coverage, the super extensive shade range or the killer price at only £4 a tube.

I’ve been obsessed with the SportFx blending sponge recently, I’d heard good things about it and thought I’d try it out for myself and I’m so happy I did. The SportFx Blend and Go sponge is so so comparable with the OG Beauty Blender but it’s literally less than a third of the price coming in at only £5. It blends my foundation so beautifully that I can’t see myself paying for a boujie Beauty Blender again, pop into your local Sports Direct and pick one up for yourself!

I literally cannot wait another second to talk about the James Charles x Morphe Artistry palette. Nothing I say can really do it justice, Its got an incredible range of colours and the formulas are gorgeous. Although the shadows can be slightly difficult to work with this is only because of how incredibly pigmented they are, but if you take your time they blend together like a dream. This palette is so versatile it’s probably the only palette I’ll ever need, I’m completely obssessed.

When it comes to lipstick the one I’ve been gravitating towards more than anything recently has been Maybelline’s Nude Embrace matte lipstick. It is scarily pale but when I blot it on my lips with a slightly darker liner already in place it looks gorgeous and effortless. Maybelline’s matte lipsticks are so comfortable and last a long time without making my lips dry and flakey, definitely a win!

I hope that gave you a bit more insight into those makeup products I just can’t put down right now and maybe a bit of inspiration for your next shopping trip! Don’t forget to like, share and subscribe and follow me on instagram so you know when I post first and drop me a comment telling me your favourite products and why I should give them a go!

Spring makeup edit SS19

Now that Spring has well and truly sprung I’m changing up some of the products I use to get me well in the mood for the warmer weather. I put together a quick rundown of the products that I’ve been gravitating towards and those that scream spring to me.

spring_makeup_edit SS19.jpg

First up is Glossier’s cloud paint in dusk. I’ve been loving this for well over a year now but for some reason it always reminds me of spring. It gives a nice bronzy pop on the cheeks, striking the balance nicely between the pink and orange hues. The fact that it’s a liquid makes its great for the hot weather and super quick to apply, just blend with your fingers and go!

Maybelline’s Snapscara has been a firm favourite of mine over the past few months, I love the way it gives long, curled, separated lashes that hold up all day. If I want a bit more volume I can layer it up and build on what it’s already given me showing how versatile it is and how I can take it from day to night with a couple more coats.

One of my favourite Spring/Summer products is L’oreal’s cushion bronzer. It gives that gorgeous, healthy glow that we’re all looking for in the warm weather without being too intense. On top of that, it’s super easy to use and doesn’t leave any harsh lines. I sweep it round the perimeters of my face and a little across my nose and cheeks as those are the places that tend to catch the sun, just makes everything look a little more natural and like you woke up like this (I won’t tell if you won’t).

Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Bronze and Glow has been a staple of mine for nearly two years but I’ve been loving it recently for the warmer weather. The bronzer hits that perfect sweet spot between warm but not too warm meaning I can create shadows and contours while making sure I’ve got that healthy glow all at once. The highlighter ties it all together, it’s a gorgeous light gold colour, not too intense but you can build it up depending on how extra you’re feeling, definite win win.

I picked up this glitter in the colour nude from Primark on a whim a couple of weeks ago and I’m so happy I did. It gives an amazing shimmer on the eyes without being overpowering. Having said that it’s definitely noticeable so I’ve been able to successfully wear it both during the day and in the evening. The shade is quite neutral but has a gorgeous depth to it that really gives that extra something to your makeup. I’d definitely recommend picking it up and trying for yourself!

Finally, because we’re always looking for that bronzy glow when it time to get our legs out I had to mention the Tanologist tanning water, yes you read that right, tanning water. I know it’s not quite makeup but you’re going to want to hear me out on this one! It’s a quick tan that doesn’t ruin white sheets (thank god) and although it can be tricky to work with at first, once you get the hang of it you’ll wonder why you hadn’t tried it sooner. I’ve got the shade medium which gives a really lovely natural looking tan perfect for spring and summer.

So that rounds up my spring makeup edit, I hope this has given you a little bit of inspiration for spring and helped you prep for the warmer weather, lets pray it doesn’t slip away! Don’t forget to like, share and subscribe and follow me on instagram to see when I post first, also drop me a comment to let me know what you’re loving this spring!

Binge-Worthy Podcasts and TV Shows

The best ways to waste a week

Be it a podcast or a TV show, I’m definitely a fully-fledged member of the bingeing generation. I’ll start a show on Monday and by Friday I’m completely obsessed and missing it already. Whether you watch or listen over the course of a couple of months or hibernate for a week and come out a changed person, every show on this list is definitely worth giving a go.

Starting with my favourite podcast, My Dad Wrote a Porno is simply a man sat round the microphones with his two best mates reading an erotic novel, written by his dad, whose pen name just happens to be Rocky Flintstone, honestly you couldn’t make it up. I cannot describe how many times I’ve physically laughed out loud listening to this podcast, whether it be walking down the road with my headphones in or sat in my silent university library during exams period (yes I’m serious). Jamie, James and Alice are hilariously funny in their own right and paired with the frankly disgusting words of Jamie’s father it just gets better and better. Boasting 150 million downloads, a sell-out world tour and an upcoming HBO special this comedy podcast has swept the world. With four seasons ready for you to binge and an upcoming fifth you’re all set for the funniest, most stomach-churning hours you can imagine. You really do have to hear it to believe it.

A relatively recent favourite of mine, The Good Place is a sit com like nothing I’ve seen before. Household names Kristen Bell and Ted Dansen lead the cast of a show about the afterlife and the consequences our choices on earth have on where we go after all is said and done. Creator Mike Schur has worked on great shows like Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn 99 and The US Office which can only be a good sign. The show is well written and incredibly clever, the big twist in season 1 and the many smaller ones that litter the rest of the seasons show better than anything how this show breaks the mould. The first three seasons are available on Netflix with a fourth in the pipeline, I can’t wait to see the story continue.

Speaking of The US Office, its such a classic that I had put on my list. I only saw the show last year but I’ve watched it through two or three times since then. The ‘will they won’t they’ couple Jim and Pam are cemented in the top spot as my favourite TV couples of all time and its only one part of the show that makes it so incredible. One of the biggest achievements I can see is that they managed to created 9 seasons of consistently great television that had a satisfying ending, something that seems to be exceedingly rare in long-running shows. Now available on Amazon Prime Video, its such a classic that I’ll watch again and again.

Over the past year I’ve grown to love Potterless, a podcast telling the tale of a twenty-something year old man reading the Harry Potter books for the first time. Mike gives a fresh take on the books and sometime backs himself into tight corners making interesting predictions that can blow up in his face rather spectacularly, much to the amusement of his listeners. He is currently around about halfway through book 7 but fret not as he has promised to review all the films and spin of books J. K. Rowling wrote as addition to the series as well at the Cursed Child stage show and much much more. A quick warning, he has turned many people against Quiddich as he brands it “the worst sport ever”. Nevertheless, Potterless is a great easy listen perfect for any Harry Potter fans who want to jump back into the Wizarding World with from a new perspective.

How could I not talk about the phenomenon that is Game of Thrones. I was definitely late on the bandwagon again but once I got into it I was fully hooked, I cannot express how excited I am for season 8 to land (3 weeks to go!). I was put off watching it thinking it was just another fantasy drama I wouldn’t have enough interest in to bother making sense of but the fantasy element is such a small part of a complex world that is riddled with politics and conflict. The show has a cult following with internet threads that would take months to wade through spouting theories and ideas for plot points in both the show and the books. I haven’t got round to reading the books yet (don’t come for me) but I’m so excited to read George R. R. Martin’s winding, intense stories.

I hope that gave you some inspiration for your next binge and I apologise in advance for your future procrastination, but I think it’ll be worth it with quality content like that! Don’t forget to like, share and subscribe and follow me on instagram to see first when I post. And definitely let me know your favourite bingeing material in the comments, I’m always looking for ways to avoid working (like writing blog posts on the best shows to binge…).

My everyday winter/spring makeup

“I spend 90% of my money on makeup, the rest I waste”

I know it’s definitely not everyone’s thing, but I’ve always loved makeup and how I feel when I wear it. It makes me feel put together and gives me that little boost of self-confidence. Having said that, I don’t wear makeup everyday but when I do I have a couple of routines that I gravitate towards.

How I do my makeup in the morning is dependent on what I’m doing that day, how early in the morning it is (lowkey one of the biggest factors tbh) and how much effort I want to put in that morning. Getting ready in the morning can take me either 10 minutes or 45 minutes to an hour, there’s not much of an in between! Honestly, sometimes I don’t want to sit and stare at my own face for an hour and sometimes I’m really in the mood to have a good play with my favourite products. So, starting with the lazy one..

When I’m feeling lazy (let’s be honest, when am I not) my makeup is very minimal. I always start with moisturiser, I know it’s technically skincare but I tend to count moisturiser as a part of my makeup routine because I hate putting on makeup without it. My go to is still my trusty L’oreal Hydra Genius Gel Moisturiser as I mentioned in my skincare favourites. After that comes concealer, I usually grab my Revolution Conceal and Define, an essential to cover up my lack of sleep and any pesky little friends that have popped up overnight. I always powder down my concealer and when I’m in a rush I tend to gravitate towards a pressed powder, my current fave being Charlotte Tilbury’s Air Brush Flawbless Finish Powder. Then it’s onto filling in my unruly brows. I’m currently loving NYX’s micro brow pencil to fill in and give some shape before brushing through any brow gel I find. Finally, mascara to make me look more awake and more human. I flit between mascaras but a couple of favourites are Benefit’s Bad Gal Bang and the L’oreal Unlimited mascara.

If I’m feeling extra, my makeup routine gets a bit more intense. Firstly I’ll add in foundation, my current go to being YSL’s All Hours Foundation which gives a good base for those extra skin products I’ll be slathering on shortly. Then comes concealer followed by a cream bronzer for some subtle definition which is currently courtesy of Benefit’s Hoola Quickie Contour Stick, I’ll then powder down all the areas with concealer maybe a light dusting over the centre of my face and forehead. Next onto brows which is pretty similar to my lazy day routine, and then we move to the eyes.

My current obsession is James Charles’ Artistry palette with Morphe so I’ll use it where and when I can! My brain power is pretty low in the morning so unless I have a flash of inspiration I tend to keep my eyes pretty basic with something neutral through my crease and a little pop of shimmer in my inner corner. If I have the time, and most importantly the patience, I’ll pop on a wing with my NYX Epic Ink Liner and chuck on some mascara.

Then back to the face (we’re nearly done I promise) and onto bronzer blush and highlighter. My holy grails are Benefit’s Hoola Bronzer, Nars’ Deep Throat and The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer for that perfect flush and healthy glow. Finally, lips. My favourite everyday nudey-pink is Charlotte Tilbury’s Bitch Perfect because it’s low maintenance and stays comfortable throughout the day.

And breathe… I did warn you it was extra.

That just about rounds up my makeup routine. As you can tell, I don’t necessarily have an ‘everyday’ probably because I love trying new things and changing up my makeup so I never get bored with doing it. My makeup definitely changes with the seasons and when the summer comes around it’s definitely going to be allll about that fresh-faced glow.

My Lounge Top 5

Because a matching underwear day is always a good day

Lounge is an underwear brand that was unknown to me until about 6 months ago, but seeing images from influencers and instagrammers made me curious and I just had to try it. Having asked for a couple of sets for Christmas I’m definitely hooked! It may not be the cheapest brand in the world but the quality is incredible and the pieces I’ve tried are so comfortable, I’m definitely saving up for more. The full range from the brand can be found here or below you’ll find my top 5 picks from Lounge.

One of my favourite sets is the red triangle bra & briefs, all of the sets come in lots of colours but this in the red is by far my favourite. They fit incredibly well and look amazing on, but most importantly they’re so so comfortable!

ggggggggg

Lounge also has an apparel section, my favourites being the reborn high waisted leggings sets. I have the pink set which I love, both the leggings and sports bra are comfortable and flattering and the material is really thick and very good quality. These sets also come in a regular mid-rise leggings as well as the high waisted  version that I have. The next set I’ve got my eye on is this blue set!

When I first searched through the Lounge website, the lemon balcony bra & thong jumped out to me immediately. I love the colour and haven’t seen anything like it anywhere else. This is definitely top of my wishlist.

Black Mesh Bra and Thong

Admittedly, when I first saw the black mesh bra & thong online I thought it looked amazing but wasn’t sure how it would fit/if it would be comfortable enough. Turns out all of my reservations were completely unnecessary because, yet again, this set feels incredible and fits like a dream.

Khaki Silk Balcony Bra & Thong

My final pick from Lounge is the khaki silk balcony bra & thong. This set looks amazing and I love the combination of the silk and lace. Again, this set comes in a few different colours, all of which look gorgeous, but I picked the khaki because it looks slightly different and interesting as well as being very flattering.

So that’s my Lounge Top 5, hopefully that gives you more of an idea about the brand and a bit of info about the products.

Make sure you like, share and subscribe as well as follow my instagram to see first when I post.

My Skincare Favourites

Disclaimer: I am lazy. Very lazy. So I try to keep my skincare routine relatively simple and convenient. Everyone takes care of their skin differently, to some my skincare routine may seem execive and others may be wondering where all my serums and facemasks are. But overall, my goal with my skincare is just to make my skin feel healthy and hopefully avoid too many spots! Below I’ve shared my morning and evening skincare routines and my favourite products.

Also, in case anyone is interested, I have pretty normal skin with a slightly oily t-zone but my skin can also be quite sensitive so I try and stay away from harsh chemicals. I’m quite lucky and manage to avoid too many spots (touch wood) so I don’t use any spot treatments so as not to irritate my skin.

Evening Skincare

Firstly, when taking my makeup off I don’t think you can get better than the Garnier Delicate Oil Micellar Water. The quality of the product for the price is unbeatable, the oil in the formula helps to strip off all of my makeup and best of all, doesn’t sting my eyes which is such a blessing. If I’ve had a lot of make-up on that day, then I’ll follow that up with my Clinique Take the Day Off Balm. When rubbing the balm into your skin it changes into an oily formula that again helps to get rid of every last bit of makeup and helps my skin feel squeaky-clean. After that, I use a toner, my toner of choice being the Simple Soothing Toner, mostly because it’s very affordable and doesn’t irritate my skin. It’s a real classic that gets the job done.

I have two different eye creams, one for the morning and one for the evening (extra, I know). In the evening I use the Clinique All About Eyes because it’s very soothing and gentle and makes my under-eyes feel soft and nurished. Finally, I top it off with a moisturiser, my current favourite being the L’oreal Hydra Genius Sensitive Moisturiser. The gel formula is cooling and makes my skin feel plump and rehydrated.

Morning Skincare

I usually won’t bother cleansing and toning my skin again in the morning, although if there’s any makeup still left on my face (because I never seem to manage to get it all!) then I’ll go back to my Garnier Micellar water to remove those trace spots. After that, I’ll use Nivea’s Cellular Radiance eye cream. I love the peachy tint in it because it helps to hide those pesky under-eye bags, which is definitely a necessity in the morning! Finally, I’ll go back to that same L’oreal gel moisturiser. I love and use it all year round but it’s especially nice in the hot weather as the formula is so cooling in the morning.

After all that I can put my makeup on and get ready for my day (or more likely, roll straight back into bed). I hope that shows that skincare doesn’t have to be too much of a fuss with 6 serums, three facemasks and a jade facial roller, because who’s actually got time for that?
